L'Olivar Private Foundation

In the L’Olivar Vell estate, in Ventalló (Alt Empordà), the sculptor Enric Pladevall has created a sculpture garden, which is an outdoor exhibition space. As if they were a part of nature, giant sculptures made from metal and wood have been cropping up, to reach the current number of 29 pieces.

The L’Olivar project is currently in progress and the work that will make for the biggest of the giant pieces will be a crypt interrelating humankind and nature. In the south of Portugal, Pladevall located a thousand-year-old dead olive tree weighing 2.7 tonnes, meeting all his required conditions in terms of “texture, height, abundance, volume, strength, roots, branches...”.

The tree will be buried in the so called Fluidra Crypt, an area 11 meters in depth and 8 meters in diameter. All the material will be iron, and it will be accessed through a tunnel, which will start 23 meters from the crypt. The olive tree will be hung upside down, the roots facing the sky and the branches will be able to be seen reflected through a surface of water, which will act as a mirror.

The promotion and conservation of nature, the landscape, the artistic creation and its exhibition in terms of the natural environment are values shared by the Olivar Private Foundation and the Fundació Fluidra.
